"Be still and Know that I am God" Psalms 46:10
I've been thinking about how hectic and crazy the pace of life has become. How I am sure, God never designed us to handle the stress levels we are carrying every day. We cook, clean, grocery shop. We chauffeur the kids to games, practices, lessons, school, play dates, and church groups. We counsel and maintain relationships with our husbands, friends, families, churches, neighbors, and in-laws. Maybe you volunteer at your kids’ school, at your church, or in the community. Many of you have a job outside of the home as well. Forget hobbies! All while being sure to present our flawless, photo-shopped, best on social media.
I’m tired just reading this! Then we add the holidays into the mix. Meals and parties, class parties, school parties, church parties. Gifts and ornaments and cookies! We hemorrhage money faster than we can make it. The pressure mounts. December-mageddon is upon us! December and armageddon put together... see what I did there?! LOL! Seriously though, it starts to feel that way!
In our efforts to juggle it all, with fifty balls in the air, deep down inside, we know… we cannot do this. We keep such a frantic pace we forget. We lose sight of the important things.
We grow too busy for the very thing we need. We forget what the holidays are really about.
We’re running hard, and the treadmill of life keeps speeding up. We push ourselves to keep pace, but then... it happens. We slip. We lose our footing. Suddenly, we’re thrown off balance.
As we crash to the floor, we bring more than just ourselves down—we’ve been juggling not only our lives but the lives of everyone in our family too. We’ve forgotten the one essential truth that makes the impossible possible.
He is there.
Right in the middle of the schedule, the holiday chaos, and yes, even the storm. Jesus.
The One.
He isn’t stressed or afraid.
He’s simply waiting for you to remember: He is God.
Be still, little one, and know.
We need a Savior. We need His perspective. We need Him to set our priorities and help us release what we don’t need—what our kids don’t need. He brings us back to what we cannot live without: His presence in our everyday lives.
When we invite Him into the details, everything changes. We truly come to know Him as the "Prince of Peace." We begin to operate under supernatural grace—oh, how I need that grace! Rest isn't going to come demand itself. We must be intentional.
Even in the middle of forgotten appointments or missed texts, we’ll have the opportunity to pause, take a breath, and remember Him. Thank Him, to remember that He’s got us. In those quiet moments, He can be glorified in the midst of our lives.
This doesn’t mean we’ll never feel breathless or miss a step. But it does mean we can choose our "Best Yes," as Lysa TerKeurst says. And when we fall—because we will fall—He will be there to catch us and those we love.
Because our loved ones are not dependent on us—they are dependent on Him. As we live this truth intentionally, we demonstrate it for them, too.
Titus 3:3-7 ESV
For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, let astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
I long for simplicity.
Simply, to love my family, serve my God, and be happy and content.
To live in continual gratitude… not wanting or striving.
I long to be still and know.
Lord, please touch all who read this, that they will choose to pull the cord on the treadmill and slow down despite their schedules and holiday commitments.
To be still as their spirit cries out for less.
Action Step: Get alone. In the bathroom if you have to... lock the door! Pull the car over into a parking lot. Put worship music on that you love and be still. Listen to it with your eyes closed so you won’t be distracted. Ask Jesus to minister to you as you quiet yourself before The Lord and invite Him into your day, today. Be still. Be blessed.
Remember why we celebrate. His name is Jesus.
